Eccentric, eclectic and oozing with pazazz there is, quite simply, nowhere else on earth quite like the Crazy Bear. The creativity abundant in every inch of the interior is evident from the tiniest detail right up to the grandest. With an eight foot bear towering over the bar, a red London bus serving as reception and 17 charismatic individually designed rooms and suites – think Moulin Rouge meets Las Vegas with an old school elegance – and you may get somewhere close.
At first glance the opulence may seem overwhelming, but the extraordinarily indulgent interior is matched equally well by the extraordinary friendliness and service of the staff. Together they succeed in creating an atmosphere that is gloriously fun, welcoming, yet sophisticated without a single ounce of pretension. Not an easy task when you consider the interior resembles Liberace reborn, yet they manage it with perfection.
In each of the magnificent rooms stands a gleaming freestanding William Holland Copper Bath. Gloriously indulgent, each Bateau takes centre stage at the foot of the bed raised on marble plinths beneath velvet clad ceilings and chandeliers. With views out over tropical gardens, the exterior of the hotel marvels with palm fringed carp filled pools surrounded by baroque balustrades, terraces, expansive lawns, secret copses and even a croquet lawn. Alice in Wonderland meets Copacabana!
Crazy Bear in Stadhampton is a fabulous example of complimentary contradiction designed to mesmerise and scintillate the imagination. Champagne on tap at the bar, a pint served with the a la carte award winning menu, the opulence contrasts magically with the seriously relaxed atmosphere all lending themselves to a destination whose soul aim is pure pleasure. So embrace the opulence, because this is one kind of crazy we can’t get enough of!
