The Spark: Reimagining Luxury

The brain child of Company Founder and Architectural Salvage Director Bill Murphy, William Holland was inspired by the increasing demand for the elusive 19th century French Bateau Baths. With scarce supply and high demand, fuelled by a passion for the product, Bill decided there was one, simple solution; to manufacture these himself and bring the iconic copper bath back into contemporary design.

The Challenge: Honouring the Past, Meeting the Present

Determined to honour ancient copper smith tradition, the task was to find skilled craftsmen with a deep knowledge of this ancient craft to bring the dream to life. Extensive research into traditional skills and copper smith techniques led to the first prototypes being made on British shores, though it soon became clear the scarcity of these artisans meant only a few baths could be created in a single year.
So, armed with artisan knowledge, a prototype and a vision, Bill set off on a worldwide search to find our coppersmith team.
Travelling through Europe, Turkey, Ancient Morocco and everywhere in between, Bill finally found the craftsmen he had been searching for in a magical province of India. Staying true to traditional techniques, these craftsmen brought Bill’s prototype to life, shaping the first modern copper baths of our age.

With the hand shaping perfected, the next challenge was to transform the raw product into a work of art, re-imagined for modern life. The aim, to offer our clients the largest, most unique, low maintenance and luxurious bathtubs in the world.
Copper in its raw form, naturally patinates to a rich bronze hue. Bill knew that clients today desired a luxury bath that held its breathtaking shine. So the task of finding a solution began. After extensive development, research, trial and error by our UK team of Master Craftsmen, a pioneering protective finish and unique 7 stage technique evolved. For the first time in the world, it was now possible to create handmade Copper Baths, that held their mirror shine.
