First Televised in 2004, Chez Jallot – The French Dilapidated Manor house rescued from the brink by Denise and Doug Ibbs, made such a spectacular impact that the Grand Designs team re-visited in 2014 for a one-off special episode to mark the buildings incredible rise from ruin to magnificence in the heart of rural France.

From just four crumbling walls, half a roof, and a history with enough twists and turns to rival Sir Conan Doyle, this extraordinary chateau now boasts an unrivalled reputation for peace, tranquility and luxury, nestled in the little known department of La Creuse. Re-claimed from the ever advancing surrounding nature, the grounds and estate now work in perfect harmony to create a countryside retreat at one with its environment.

Every guest room is unique with its own blend of bourgeois splendour, however it is ‘The Hummingbird Suite’, now famous for its’ William Holland central copper bath, that is always cited as the most memorable. A ‘wonderful flamboyant gesture’ Kevin Mcloud enthuses ‘what a wonderful thing – absolutely gorgeous!’ The freestanding Cuprosa Bateau given pride of place and raised on its central plinth in the Bridal Suite, is perfectly placed to enjoy both sunrise and sunsets from either end of the room, making this the ultimate romantic retreat
