The Renaissance of 19th century French glamour

William Holland is proud to showcase the gorgeous Copper Bateau Collection. Stemming from the indulgent decadence of 19th century France, this stunning double-ended bath is experiencing a 21st century renaissance as both residential and commercial clients strive to capture that little piece of luxury and romance embodied by a bath perfectly designed for two.

The Cuprosa Bateau bath and basin featured, are individually produced from high quality pure copper, and meticulously hand finished by our master craftsmen in the UK to create a perfect and unique final product. Completed using a lacquer developed for the aviation industry, the coating is durable and flexible, allowing it to stand up to the rigours of regular use, with no need for any complicated maintenance. Although a mix of contemporary and traditional brassware is available, the taps featured are Wall Mounted Basin Filler in Nickel Finish & Wall Mounted Bath Shower Mixer in Nickel Finish, completing the period look that was chosen for this interior.

As well as being a design icon, the Cuprosa Bateau bath and basin are both practical and functional owing to the heat retentive qualities of copper which maintains the water temperature for a much longer period than its cast iron contemporaries. The Copper Bateau bath also only weighs 35kg making it a perfect solution for renovations and projects where weight is an issue.

Although an homage to traditional interiors, Coppers inherent glamour and the classical beauty of the Bateau make it a suitable choice for an eclectic mix of renovations ranging from contemporary to period. Add to this an almost limitless range of finishes and the Bateau can be transformed to complement and realise almost any design vision.

Originating from the French word for ‘boat’ the Bateau, with its aesthetically satisfying double-ended symmetry is increasingly becoming the key statement feature in renovation projects as bathing moves away from pure functionality and towards the embodiment of luxury and escape. In fact these baths are such a work of artistry that, no longer restricted to the bathroom, the trend for the Bateau to be the key bedroom feature is making a comeback!
